Tim and I were in desperate need of a date night last weekend. We decided to check out this place called Kiddin Around. Their niche is hourly childcare and they cater to parents in need of a date night, getting some shopping done, going to a Dr. appointment, etc. We were a little hesitant about dropping our kids off with strangers and felt like they might be treated like cattle. Those fears were far from the reality of our experience.
Upon arriving our kids were swept up into caring arms and whisked away to pizza night. Tim and I left as other kids were showing up and getting the royal treatment also. We kept our date short and just went to a movie. When we showed up to get the boys Mason was being held and swayed by the girl at the front desk. It was bed time he was needing some loving and she was happy to be cuddling him. Slade came running up with a giant smile on his face, his hair moist from sweat and said "this place is pretty working out for me, mom!" I asked him if he was having fun and the ladies said he played the limbo. He also told us about eating pizza, watching over the hedge, dancing and playing on the gym. All of this in 2.5 hours. Throughout the week he has asked numerous times when will he get to go back to Kiddin Around.
I believe our kids got a million times better treatment than if we had found a sitter. In addition we had an extra level of trust leaving them at a stable business that we could check out through various means.
If you intend to try out Kiddin Around here is some information you will need:
- If your child is not in daycare you will need your pediatrician to sign a form verifying their health and shot records, so plan ahead.
- You will have to fill out a form that can be downloaded from their website. Give yourself sometime to get the information they need. We had to track down addresses of relatives.
- You will have to pay an annual membership fee of $30 that covers you to use all 3 of their facilities in the metro-plex.
- They will provide meals for your child for an additional $3.50 or you can bring their own food.
- Playcare hourly rates are $9.00 for infants, $7.00 for kids over 18 months and $3.50 for additional children.
- Monday thru Thursday they are open fro 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM and on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM - Midnight.
- Be prepared for your kids to nag you about going back!
